One Bear Away From the "Father and Son Bear Slam"!
« on: September 05, 2011, 07:07:26 PM »
As many of you know I have already shot two bears this season.  My dad and I have a goal this year for both of us to tag out on bears.

My dad spotted this bear moving uphill along the edge of a brushy draw.  The two of us scrambled to the top of the mountain where we thought the bear was heading.  When we finally made it up there we couldn't find him.  The thermals were screwy and our scent was blowing straight to the bear, plus we were being way too loud with the crunchy brush.  After sitting there for about a half hour we thought the bear was gone. >:( Then I stood up and had a little better view. I spotted the bear and whispered to my dad that he was "right there, about 100 yards away."  I pulled out the rangefinder and ranged him at 120 yards. After ranging him I looked to my dad and henever heard me so I tapped on his shoulder and pointed down the hill.  Of course my dad couldn't see him because some bushes were blocking his view. After 5 minutes I stood up to see if the bear was still there and he was gone :bash: :bash:. He had crossed the draw and appeared back into view on the other side.  My dad picked him up at 140 yards and drilled him! We recovered the bear and my dad sent me back down to the truck to grab the knife and camera.  My dad shot the bear around 7:30pm and we didn't get the bear out until midnight. Had a really fun hunt hunting with my dad!!! One more bear to go and we will have achieved our goal.

Way to go guys. Wish my dad was still around to hunt with. Those memories last forever.
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!

Bowman and I have been able to do a lot of hunting together this year.  It's been a memorable year for us.  We're catching up on some of the hunting he missed out on during his 11 years of wrestling.

Awesome memories and awesome bear.  Congrats to the both of you!
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.
You are never to old to learn something stupid.
